The trade of gold and other items from World of Warcraft is almost as old as the game itself. If you need some quick cash to shop in the auction house, you can easily and legally buy gold. MeinMMO tells you how to do it and what you need to consider to avoid a ban.
You earn gold in World of Warcraft for all kinds of activities. You need it to buy consumables, materials, or equipment. However, it takes time to farm gold.
If you have more money than time, you might be interested in simply buying gold. This is possible, legally and without a ban in just a few steps.
Since 2017, there is the WoW Token, which allows you to receive gold in-game for real money. We explain how to use it.
Buying Gold through WoW Tokens – Price and Purchase
How do I use a WoW Token?
- Open Shop
Open the shop menu in-game and select the tab ‘WoW Token’

- Buy Token
Buy a token for €20 with your preferred payment method

- Sell Token
Place the token in the auction house – you can only sell it there

- Wait
Wait a bit – Tokens are usually sold within a few hours

- Collect Gold
Collect your gold from the mailbox

Tokens work both ways. You can either receive gold in-game for real money, or you buy a token for gold and receive 30 days of playtime or €13 Battle.net credit
How much gold do I get for that? That’s the catch: The amount of gold is determined by supply and demand. That means: If there are many tokens and few players buying them, you will get less gold. However, if more players want to buy tokens, it becomes more expensive.
The current value of a token will be shown to you before purchase. You receive the price displayed when creating the auction, regardless of how the value changes afterwards.
Warning: Other sources can lead to a ban
Are there alternatives? Basically yes. There are various gold sellers, but we will not name them here. Trading gold for real money is not allowed in World of Warcraft.
In Blizzard’s service termination information, it states exactly which “serious violations” can lead to an immediate and permanent ban. In section 6 it says:
“Cash purchase or sale or exchange of gold, weapons, armor, or other virtual items used in a game outside of the game platform.” (via Blizzard)
This clearly indicates that you should not buy gold in any way other than through the WoW Token. A ban may not happen, but the likelihood is quite high.
If you then have a lot of gold and want to keep it, you must remain vigilant in the auction house. This streamer lost all his gold in WoW due to a silly mistake.
