The Nerub’ar Palace will be the first raid in World of Warcraft: The War Within. Just before the release, Blizzard announced a patch in which several classes will receive a significant buff. Even the bosses will be changed again, it seems.
When does the raid start?
- The maintenance for the raid will take place for 4 hours during the night from Tuesday, September 10th to Wednesday, September 11th.
- From Wednesday, you can then access the normal and heroic modes as well as the 1st wing in LFT. Mythic raids will follow a week later. Here you can find the roadmap for the contents of The War Within.
- Blizzard has now announced a patch for the maintenance that changes several classes and bosses.
These are the buffs and nerfs: In a post in the official forum, community manager Kaivax explains that several class sets had to be nerfed because they were otherwise too strong in comparison. In return, the corresponding classes will receive a buff:
- Unholy and Blood Death Knights deal 5% more damage with all abilities
- Destruction Demon Hunters deal 4% more damage with all abilities
- Vengeance Demon Hunters and Destruction Warlocks receive a 3% increase to total damage
- Enhancement Shaman receive a buff of 2% to their damage
Once the raid is active, you will find our DPS ranking with the strongest classes here. Until then, you can learn in our tier list for The War Within which classes are currently performing the best.
In the tier sets, the bonuses for 4 pieces usually receive a nerf, and sometimes also those for 2 pieces, such as with the Destruction Demon Hunter, the Warlock and the Shaman. You can find the nerfs in detail in the patch notes.
Blizzard has already announced that during the heroic week (September 11-18), there will be evaluations on what needs to be adjusted for the start of Mythic+, PvP, and the Mythic raids.

Adjustments for the bosses in the Nerub’ar Palace before the raid is even here
The data miners from wowhead have found, in addition to the already confirmed nerfs and buffs for the classes, some adjustments for the bosses in the new raid. Although probably very few of you have been part of the tests and seen the raid from the inside, the changes are likely to be important for you.
Out of the 8 bosses in the raid, 6 are receiving a significant buff, including in the normal and heroic modes. Only Sikran will be nerfed. With the other bosses, especially shields and healing absorptions are now stronger.
Even with the final boss, Queen Ansurek, healers now have more to do. You can also just fight them solo in case of emergency, if you’re only interested in the story. Since this is about data mining, however, the changes are not confirmed.
That healers are precisely suffering at the release of the first raid is somewhat logical in a way. There is a buff that increases every week and boosts healing within the raid. This results in an automatic strengthening: The first raid in The War Within nerfs itself every week.
