World of Warcraft has listened to the fans and is bringing dragon riding to the old world. New hints promise: They have listened to all players.
Dragon riding has taken the World of Warcraft community by storm. Most players now sigh in annoyance when they are traveling in Azeroth or Kalimdor and have to use the ‘old flying’ method. Blizzard had already stated shortly after the launch of Dragonflight that they would likely expand the feature to the whole world – and it is coming much sooner than expected.
Even though it is currently just data mining, it seems clear: Patch 10.1.5 will bring dragon riding to the old world.
Dragon riding was also the core feature with which WoW: Dragonflight was advertised:
What has been discovered? The data miners from wowhead have already found several dozen achievements in the game data for Patch 10.1.5. These achievements belong to dragon races that take place in the old world – for example, in Ahn’Qiraj, Mount Hyjal, or the Un’goro Crater.
This is interesting because dragon riding is currently not possible in Azeroth and Kalimdor. The logical conclusion: Dragon riding is coming to the old world.
Many mounts will learn dragon riding: Also interesting is that many old mounts will receive new animations to be suitable for dragon riding as well. Data mining indicates that the ‘dragon’ mounts, such as Frostwyrms or Netherdrakes, will be the first affected.
However, Blizzard had already hinted in an interview that more mounts are to be made fit for this.
This is how Blizzard wants to please everyone: The most interesting part of the whole situation is that Blizzard apparently allows players the freedom to choose which type of flying they want to use. Because although dragon riding has been extremely well received by the vast majority of players, who can no longer imagine WoW without this feature, there are also dissenting voices that wish for the ‘old’ riding back.
For exactly these players, Blizzard has created a selection. In the future, players will be able to choose between two flying styles. One is ‘Flight style: Static’ and the other is ‘Flight style: Dynamic.’ The static flight style is likely the ‘old flying’ as known since The Burning Crusade. The dynamic style is thus dragon riding with a significantly more active control, which also allows for higher speeds.
What do you think about this way of implementation? A good solution for everyone? Or would you have preferred a different approach?
Speaking of dragons – have you already seen that the Caller is getting a 3rd specialization?
