One of the few popular characters from Shadowlands is appearing again in World of Warcraft. We reveal what is already known about it.
No matter how you look at it, the Shadowlands expansion did not receive a warm welcome from many players of World of Warcraft. Therefore, most want to forget the events of the addon and are glad that many contents from there will hardly be mentioned anymore. However, Blizzard occasionally picks up some threads from this expansion – and this will also be the case in the next patch. For the mediator Ve’nari is returning.
Who is Ve’nari? We meet Ve’nari in Shadowlands after we return to the Maw for the first time. She is a mediator who was sent into the Maw and performs quests for the mysterious Ve cartel there. She helps us navigate the Maw better and teaches us valuable wisdom: That betrayal is inevitable. Especially from those close to you.
In Zereth Mortis, Ve’nari seems to die. For her corpse can be found at the area’s catalyst. Only engineers can see that her corpse is not real. She has faked her own death.
How does Ve’nari return? In patch 11.1.7, Blizzard introduces the new feature “Lore-Walking.” Here, players can specifically relive related quest chains, such as the story surrounding Arthas, the Lich King. One of these chains, however, is also about the Astral beings, whom we first encounter in the shattered world. We learn that they lost their home world and that the Lord of the Void, Dimensius, devoured them.
As part of the quest line, we also experience what Ve’nari did in the Maw. The YouTuber Bellular has made a fairly extensive analysis video about it:
At the end, the quest line even turns from a narrative into a “current” quest. Because Ve’nari appears, and we can see her and the Wayfinder (Alleria’s mentor) having a brief conversation. It is confirmed what many have long suspected: the mediators from Shadowlands and the Astral beings once belonged to the same people or at least lived on the same planet.
Ve’nari and the Wayfinder do not have a good relationship with each other, as the Wayfinder hoped he would never see Ve’nari again. Yet the current events force both into cooperation.
How exactly this story continues will probably be revealed in patch 11.2 – because all signs currently point to the fact that we will travel to K’aresh, the former home world of the Astrals and Mediators. This may be the last major patch of The War Within.
