Plunderstorm in World of Warcraft returns. But this time a few things are different – as there is a shop where you can buy rewards.
Last year, World of Warcraft tried out many new things. The two biggest innovations were probably Remix: Mists of Pandaria and the Plunderstorm mode. The latter returns at the beginning of 2025 and this is likely to split the community into two camps once again. At least: This time there is a shop, which should make everything better.
Battle Royale in World of Warcraft
What kind of game mode is this? Plunderstorm drops characters either solo or as small teams onto the map of Arathi Highlands and lets them compete against each other in a battle royale. However, there are not the normal WoW abilities, but a whole set of new skills that you acquire throughout the match – or can steal from other characters. Who remains alive last wins the round.
The main goal here is, however, to collect loot (“plunder”). This not only increases the character level in the game mode but also grants the currency with which rewards can be unlocked.
What is different this time? It is still unclear whether the game mode will play out differently and if there will be new abilities. What is clear, however, is that there are no glory rewards to be unlocked gradually this time. Instead, you should be able to spend the loot in a kind of shop.
Even though no details are known yet: The advantage here is clearly that you can specifically buy the rewards you want and leave everything else aside. There should also be the possibility to earn the rewards from past events.
Why was the mode controversial? Players of World of Warcraft are “creatures of habit” in many ways and often struggle when something new appears in the game that seems to clash with the previous gameplay. A battle royale that comes with completely new abilities and even its own controls has therefore not been to everyone’s taste – in addition to the fact that it is a purely PvP event.
However, there is also a quite large part of the community that is already looking forward to the return of the mode and hopes that there will be even more variations in the future. Because the mode also provided a lot of fun.
