Socket slots are extremely important in World of Warcraft. Now they are basically available as a “consolation prize”. We will tell you how to get them.
In World of Warcraft, there are numerous items that contribute to character improvement. Not all of them are directly equipment; some even refine or enhance the respective equipment – like socket slots. In patch 9.2, there was previously no eternity to add new sockets to items. “Quietly and secretly,” Blizzard has now introduced such a feature.
What was the problem? Players felt that the weekly reward chamber was not rewarding enough. In the last season, one often had to choose the “Zonk”, that is, the “Servant Tokens of Commendation”. These could then be exchanged for various small rewards – such as Anima. This way, one could at least choose “something” from the chamber, even if this consolation prize felt rather like mockery so far.
What has changed now? With a hotfix, the developers have implemented a change that should alert all players in the endgame. From now on, you can buy a socket for your equipment with the “consolation prize” – and also some other exciting items that feel significantly more rewarding.
What new items are there? A whole bunch, there should be something for every type of player:
- Ephemera-Infused Mesh: Adds a socket to an item from Season 3 (Helmet, Necklace, Bracers, Belt, or Ring) if the item does not have one. Costs 6 Commendations.
- Overflowing Chest of Riches: A chest that contains an average of 3,000 gold. Costs 3 Commendations.
- Certified Vouchsafe: Increases your Renown level with your current Covenant by 1 until Renown level 80. Is account-bound. Costs 1 Commendation.
- Bottled Night Sky: Grants 25 Genesis Particles needed for crafting mounts and pets in Zereth Mortis. Costs 1 Commendation.
- Treatise on Patterns in the Purpose: Grants 40 Sigils of the First. Costs 1 Commendation.
- Tribute of the Enlightened: Grants 150 reputation with the Enlightened faction. Costs 1 Commendation.
How do you earn Commendations? Previously, there were always 3 Commendations if you did not want any of the equipment items from the chamber. This will now change. Depending on how many sections of the chamber you have unlocked (that is, how many items you had to choose from), you will receive different amounts of Commendations:
- One section of the chamber unlocked: 2 Commendations
- Two sections of the chamber unlocked: 4 Commendations
- Three or more sections of the chamber unlocked: 6 Commendations
Additionally, the maximum number of Commendations you can carry at once will increase to 12.
In the future, it should feel significantly better if you do not get a direct upgrade from the weekly treasure chamber. Because then you can at least choose a socket and upgrade your existing equipment – or earn a few thousand gold coins.
