In the group search of WoW: Shadowlands there are issues. Boosting offers overshadow every proper group search.
Whoever is looking for a group in World of Warcraft for content like raids or Mythic+ uses the LFG tool. However, this is sometimes not so easy, as there are numerous offers from various boosting services that one has to sift through first. This is a problem that has slowly started to resurface.
What’s going on? Anyone wanting to tackle harder content like “Mythic+” dungeons, rather than using the dungeon finder, has a problem. The group search is massively hindered by boosting sellers. These are groups that promise a certain performance in exchange for gold. For instance, one can buy the kill of all 10 bosses in Castle Nathria or a specific “Mythic+” dungeon within the time limit. Is this even allowed? No. Quite some time ago, Blizzard adjusted the rules so that pure “boosting” groups are no longer allowed to advertise their offers in the LFG tool. Those who do not want to form a regular group, but rather want something in return in the form of gold, should not place their group there. However, this does not seem to have helped much when looking at the LFG tool.
However: Please remember that advertising such sales in the trade channel is perfectly fine. You should not mistakenly report the corresponding messages.
What can be done? If you discover such groups in the LFG tool, you can easily report them. Just right-click on the corresponding group in the LFG tool, select “Report group for:” and then choose the relevant reason. Usually it is “Advertising”. This sends a report to Blizzard, and at the same time, the group of the corresponding character will no longer be displayed to you, making the group search a little clearer each time.
Does reporting do anything? Players also debate this a lot in the subreddit. Looking at the current amount of sales offers in LFR, one would probably have to say “No”. However, it could also be that Blizzard does actually ban the corresponding advertising accounts. However, since it only takes one character at level 50 to post an LFR offer, this is not a significant obstacle for these boost groups – they just create a new account and buy a boost for one of the characters.
Accordingly heated is the debate in the subreddit of World of Warcraft. Many players now assume that Blizzard cannot handle this issue. It has therefore been suggested to open an additional tab in the LFG tool. Here, boosting offers could be posted completely “legally”, as this is used by some players and is generally also allowed. It’s just massively annoying when the offers obstruct the actual search for a serious group.
