The Old Gods
They are among the greatest evils of Azeroth, and although many of them are considered defeated, the “Old Gods” have never truly been vanquished. Their corruption reaches deep into the planet and has already touched the soul of the world, which writhes in fear and pain. It is only a matter of time before the Old Gods call forth their Black Empire again – after all, many enemies have been eliminated.
C’Thun
Last seen: C’thun was killed by players in Ahn’Qiraj back in Classic. During the Warcraft comic, he was supposed to be revived by Cho’gall, but the comic is no longer canon.
Where he might appear: In an “Old Gods” expansion. After nearly 10 years, the giant eye and the first boss with the “death ray in slow motion” might slowly return to World of Warcraft. The world needs more Old Gods.
N’Zoth
N’Zoth is responsible for transforming the Highborne of the night elves into the twisted Naga. On the other hand, he ensured the survival of Queen Azshara and her followers. Anything that does not serve the elemental lord Neptulon is likely under the control of N’Zoth, and that will primarily mean: A lot of tentacles.
Last seen: In battle against the Titans thousands of years ago. He himself has never appeared directly but is mentioned in many places.
Where he might appear: In an “Old Gods” expansion. He is supposed to still rest in the depths of the sea, and to this day we have seen little of him. He and his “Black Army” have already been announced many times, most recently in the Emerald Nightmare.
Yogg-Saron
Yogg-Saron is probably the Old God that has the most influence on player characters, as he is responsible for the “Curse of Flesh” that freed all creatures from their stony life form. He is the “Beast with a Thousand Maws” and best known for bestowing madness. He also created the Emerald Nightmare and corrupted Loken (which led to Helya’s downfall).
Last seen: Yogg-Saron freed himself from his prison in Ulduar in Wrath of the Lich King and was killed. He is also the only god that has its own ore that drives one insane when mined: Saronite.
Where he might appear: In an “Old Gods” expansion. Officially, he is dead, but since all those involved were under Yogg-Saron’s madness, it would be easy to twist the story so that he only pretended to be dead.
The Void Lords
The Void Lords sent the Old Gods and want to mold the World Soul of Azeroth into a “Dark Titan.” So far they have been unable to gain a foothold in this cosmos, but their hunger is endless. Since the Burning Legion is their direct enemy, and is currently being defeated, it is only a matter of time before this ultimate darkness descends upon Azeroth and once again brings about the “worst battle of all time.”
Last seen: Not at all. The Void Lords cannot manifest in our world for long – at least so far.
Where they might appear: In an “Old Gods” expansion, where Azeroth is ultimately corrupted.
