The fate of the Alliance leader in WoW: Shadowlands is grim. In Patch 9.1, the story of Anduin Wrynn continues.
The first leaks before BlizzCon 2021 have surfaced. Blizzard leaked important data about WoW ahead of the event – including a concept drawing of Anduin Wrynn. One of the biggest developments is likely to hit many Alliance fans hard. The current High King of the Alliance, Anduin Wrynn, will undergo a dark transformation in Patch 9.1. We’ll reveal what the Jailer has in store for the young king of Stormwind.
What has happened so far? Those who have followed the story of WoW: Shadowlands up to this point may have a rough idea of what has happened to Anduin Wrynn:
- The young king of Stormwind was captured by the Jailer during the assault on the Shadowlands.
- Sylvanas tried to turn Anduin to her side to make him work voluntarily for her and the Jailer.
- Anduin remained steadfast and instead attempted to convert Sylvanas.
- The Jailer meanwhile forged new instruments of domination and reforged the sword Shalamayne into a blade of sorrow.
This video shows the last known encounter between Sylvanas and Anduin, which players experience at the end of the Torghast story:
What happens in Patch 9.1? The Jailer and Sylvanas have apparently executed their plan, transforming Anduin into a tool of the Maw. He is now completely under the Jailer’s control and has become a harbinger of death – at least that is what his new appearance suggests.
Parallels to Arthas: It’s particularly interesting that Anduin now bears even more obvious parallels to the former Lich King Arthas Menethil. His previously blonde hair is now dyed white, and the color of his eyes has been replaced with the cold blue we associate with the Lich King and his undead armies.
These parallels to the Lich King were hinted at by Blizzard in the previous expansion “Battle for Azeroth.” There, Anduin was often shown in poses and camera angles reminiscent of Arthas’ storyline from Warcraft III.
Now this transformation seems to be complete, and Anduin has been, like Arthas once, transformed into a weapon of the Jailer.
Whether Anduin will face the same fate as Arthas remains to be seen. We’ll surely hear more about him in the coming days or at least when Patch 9.1 goes live and the first players storm the raid.
We’re sure to learn more about WoW tomorrow at BlizzCon – unless even more leaks come out by then.
