With WotLK Classic, big changes are coming to World of Warcraft. There is a “Heroic+” system – and more loot for tanks and healers.
While everyone in Retail WoW is waiting for the launch of Dragonflight, the “Classic” version is first focused on the release of Wrath of the Lich King. However, the game will not be exactly as you remember it from the past. Some sensible innovations and modifications have been introduced, such as the removal of the simplified dungeon finder tool. Now the developers have dropped another bombshell.
There will be bonus loot for tanks and healers and even a brand new game mode for heroic dungeons, a kind of “Heroic Plus”. This was revealed in an interview between MrGM and WoW developer Kris Zierhut.
What exactly does “Heroic Plus” look like? That is not entirely clear yet. The interview stated only that characters will have an option at the beginning of the dungeon to increase the dungeon’s difficulty. Then the dungeon grants better loot – namely from the “old” 10-man raids – and there are also more badges that can be exchanged for gear.
The idea is as follows: Once Phase 2 begins in WotLK Classic, the additional difficulty level can be activated in heroic dungeons. This makes the dungeon tougher and also drops loot from the 10-man raids of the previous phase (such as from Naxxramas 10).
Raid loot from the current raid tier will still only drop from the raids.
Whether this new difficulty level merely amounts to an increase in the health points and strength of mobs or also includes an “affix system” like in the modern WoW version is still not entirely clear. At least in the first description, it sounded more like “a” new difficulty level and not a scaling system, as was the case in Shadowlands or Battle for Azeroth.
Blizzard will surely provide more details in the coming weeks.
What does Blizzard expect from this? Blizzard wants the heroic dungeons to remain worthwhile and interesting throughout the lifespan of WotLK Classic. Therefore, this additional option is being introduced so that dungeons do not become completely irrelevant by Phase 2.
Tanks and healers receive bonus loot
Tanks and healers are traditionally scarce in World of Warcraft. So those who decide to play a tank or healer in dungeons will be rewarded additionally. After defeating the last boss of a dungeon, tanks and healers receive an additional reward bag. This bag contains various consumables, such as potions and flasks or buff food.
However, the bag can also contain special mounts or pets – including rare drops from past expansions, such as the mount from Baron Rivendare (Stratholme) or Kael’thas’s white hawkstrider (Terrace of the Magisters).
The idea behind this is: If tanks and healers can earn their consumables for raids through dungeons and do not have to log out to farm herbs on twinks, then those characters will spend more time in dungeons. This would automatically create more groups and allow more players to have more fun.
What do you think of these changes? Meaningful innovations for WotLK Classic? Or a complete disaster that will ruin the game?
