The Twitch streamer Asmongold wanted to join the “WoW Community Council”, but was rejected by Blizzard. No wonder, considering how he wrote his application.
Although the Twitch streamer Asmongold has spent more time lately with Final Fantasy XIV instead of World of Warcraft, he still clings to Blizzard’s MMORPG. No wonder, after all, he has repeatedly stated that he loves the game and hopes to enjoy it again someday when Blizzard fixes the issues.
Blizzard has now launched the “Community Council” project – and Asmongold applied for it, but in a pretty cheeky manner.
The player council is supposed to give Blizzard many perspectives for WoW
What is the Community Council? The Community Council of World of Warcraft is an initiative launched by Blizzard. It aims to find various representatives from all possible areas of gaming to engage with the developers and the rest of the community.
It should be a way to consolidate feedback and involve the community more in the development of World of Warcraft. Ideally, this will lead to a better game and a more pleasant atmosphere between developers and players.
Asmongold complains about boring, bad content in WoW
What did Asmongold do? When Asmongold heard about the project, he immediately wrote his own application. However, as one might expect from him and his streams, it was peppered with coarse language and some accusations. He read his full application in one of his recent videos.
In the application, Asmongold complains mainly that the “Completionist Content” has become increasingly tedious and absurd. He refers to achievements that are particularly strenuous just for the sake of being strenuous. For example, he comments on the achievements from Warlords of Draenor:
In summary, I find that completionist content is unfulfilling, boring, repetitive and bad. But it wasn’t always like this. I believe we started to see achievements in WoD that were just tasks to waste time.
2,000 Pet Battles in Draenor. Why? What kind of garbage is that? The goal is so huge, so far away, that it borders on madness to pursue it. You don’t want people to feel dumb for trying to achieve your achievements. And how can one not feel dumb trying to achieve 2,000 Pet Battles in Draenor?
Asmongold felt similarly about the meta-achievements for archaeology, which became particularly annoying in WoD:
Flawless artifacts in archaeology? Praise the Lord you didn’t have archaeology in Shadowlands (even though that was actually a big mistake considering all the lore you could have brought with archaeology in Shadowlands). Otherwise, we would be farming ‘Primal Flawless Artifacts’ right now. I’m sure whenever we would trade those in, we would have then received 20 boxes of restored artifacts instead of the usual 5 or 10 for regular flawless artifacts.
Take a look at the Draenor meta-achievement for flawless artifacts and tell me that this piece of crap is not the first step into a psychiatric facility.
What happened to Asmongold’s application? When Asmongold later checked the status of his application, he received the message that “his ticket was closed” and there was no response to it. He was apparently rejected with this application – or at least that’s what Asmongold claims.
The attempt to apply was probably more of a planned joke and a setup for a video rather than a serious attempt to truly join the Community Council. Even if Asmongold makes some valid points, the text was written in such a way that a rejection was essentially predetermined.
What do you think of Asmongold’s application? A good joke? Or a wasted opportunity to really make some changes to WoW?
