With the first wave of invitations for the beta of WoW: Battle for Azeroth, Blizzard seems to have nearly completed the class balancing. Only three specializations will undergo significant changes. The joy among players is limited.
After Battle for Azeroth recently transitioned from alpha to beta, the first invitations from Blizzard have already been sent out. Some players can already play the first versions of the new addon.
Many players take the test very seriously and help with development or ask questions about it. Such as user Emrill, who in the US forums asked about the status of the classes. Community Manager Kaivax responded in a way that did not please most users.
All specializations are mostly finished – except for three
When asked if Blizzard is still working on the classes, Kaivax replied: “We are nearly finished with the changes to the rotations, looks, and feel of most specializations.”
Only three specializations are expected to be addressed in the near future: Unholy Death Knights, Frost Death Knights, and Protection Paladins. Most changes to the classes have already been made in alpha, and this phase is mostly complete.
“You are making the same mistake again.”
The community reacted with surprise and outrage. The tone remained very factual throughout, but most responses in the relevant forum thread criticize this decision by Blizzard.
Some players specifically point out problems with other classes that would still exist without changes. However, most complain that Blizzard has hardly changed anything.
The class design was one of the biggest points of criticism in WoW: Legion, and with the current state of classes in the beta, nothing has changed. “You are making the same mistake again” is the sentiment of many posts.
Class balancing is iterative – but players fear neglect
According to Kaivax, balancing the classes is an ongoing process that promises success only through repetition. Minor changes to all specializations would still be possible.
However, player criticism shows that minor changes are not enough, and some classes would need to be redone from scratch. There is a fear that everything will remain the same until the first adjustments later in the addon with the first raid.
Most users are grateful for the information that the community manager shares with them – but very disappointed with the developers’ decisions. We’ll have to wait and see if this feedback is enough to give some classes another look.
