In Battle for Azeroth, many changes are happening to the professions of World of Warcraft. Professions are becoming significantly smaller – the “farming to 800” is no longer necessary.
The developers of World of Warcraft are hard at work on the next expansion, Battle for Azeroth. Alongside two new continents and additional allied races, there are also several adjustments to old game systems. For example, there will be a “stat squish”, where all character values will be reduced to a lower level, so that the numbers in the millions will disappear.
A similar squish will apparently also occur with professions. In the latest build of the alpha for Battle for Azeroth, the profession of tailoring has only 100 levels compared to the 800 levels from Legion.
Grinding professions to 800 or 900 is tedious
Currently, one can only speculate about the reason. The most straightforward explanation is that professions and their levels have slowly been rising to “absurd” heights. While 300 levels made sense in Classic, reaching level 800 is too high for a newcomer to start completely from scratch. To avoid this demotivation of having to work through useless 800 levels, there will likely be significant cuts here.
However, levels already lost significant importance in Legion. With a few exceptions, all items could already be crafted with a crafting skill of 1. Only the “star” rating determined how efficiently the player was able to craft an item.
The star system will also be retained in Battle for Azeroth. This will lower the costs of crafting recipes, allowing players to save gold and resources, and generate more profit in the auction house or when selling to other players directly.
For gathering professions, there are currently no changes. It seems that the profession still goes up to rank 800, but it could be that the developers are just running a test with tailoring and then expand this to all professions later.
Please keep in mind that the changes mentioned above come from an early alpha version of Battle for Azeroth. Everything can still change before the closed beta launch and the game’s release.
