What makes Death Knights special? Death Knights were the first new class, introduced with the second expansion Wrath of the Lich King, as a hero class. As such, they were considered too powerful for a long time.
The Death Knight was the first class to tank with a two-handed weapon instead of a shield, apart from Druids, who change form for this. Like Demon Hunters, they also start at a higher level.
The specializations of the Death Knight
- Frost: Frost Death Knights use two one-handed weapons (changes with Shadowlands) and rely on strong area damage. They primarily fight with frost abilities and spells, which they can sometimes use from a distance, but they lack mobility.
- Unholy: The second DPS specialization is a bit more difficult to learn than Frost and works with diseases (DoTs) and undead minions. Unholy Death Knights take a bit longer to deal damage, but they can handle both single targets and groups fairly well.
- Blood: Blood Death Knights are the tanks of the class and primarily work with shields and self-healing, with which they can negate damage taken after the fact. They have the ability to pull enemies directly towards them instead of having to run to them.
