What makes Paladins special? Like Shamans, Paladins were only available to one faction until The Burning Crusade, for the Alliance. They are one of three classes that can take on all roles in a group.
Paladins use the light to deal damage, tank, or heal and excel in all three areas. Their special ability is to bless allies to empower them.
The specializations of the Paladin
- Protection: Protection Paladins are tanks who can absorb damage particularly well for short phases in combat or even completely avoid it. Sometimes they can even negate certain mechanics. However, they are more vulnerable to damage than most tanks outside of these phases and therefore need a strong partner.
- Holy: The healing specialization of the Paladins can heal important targets like the tank passively with “Flame of Faith” while focusing more on other targets. They rely on powerful area healing in a small area. This makes them strong healers in almost every situation, but they struggle when the group spreads out too much.
- Retribution: Retribution Paladins are the DPS specialization that engages in combat with two-handed weapons. They have both strong burst damage and consistent damage on single targets and groups, and can support their allies with various buffs. However, they lack mobility.
One of the world’s most famous Paladin players is former YouTuber Bachir “Athene” Boumaaza. He discovered the class early on and built a following around himself as the “best Paladin in the world.”
