There is good news for players of World of Warcraft. More players than planned can participate in the Battle of Undercity.
The Battle for Lordaeron, also known as “The Siege of Undercity,” is the final step of the pre-event for the next expansion of World of Warcraft. Originally, it was planned that only pre-order customers of Battle for Azeroth could move to Undercity, but now all players will be able to join.
Blizzard discards plans. The original plan was for only pre-order customers of Battle for Azeroth to have access to the Battle of Undercity. However, Blizzard has clarified through Community Manager Ythisens that this is no longer the case. All players – regardless of their pre-order status – will be able to play the Battle of Undercity starting Wednesday (August 8, 2018). Thus, the battle remains part of the pre-event.
What is the Battle of Undercity? In response to the destruction of Teldrassil in the War of Thorns by the Horde, Anduin gathers the Alliance troops and sends the fleet north to Tirisfal. The armies capture Brill and leave a path of devastation behind before setting up camp outside of Undercity. The city is surrounded, and the siege begins. This is where Alliance players make their advance while Horde followers prepare their defense.
The battle will still be available after launch. Since the Battle of Undercity also serves as the introductory scenario in Battle for Azeroth, the battle will remain playable even after the end of the pre-event. However, this does not apply to the quests from the “War of Thorns,” which take place on the Darkshore. The missions and world quests there will disappear with the launch of Battle for Azeroth.
