We spoke at Gamescom with some developers from WoW. What they think about a possible bard class was revealed in our interview.
At Gamescom 2018, we had the opportunity to speak with some employees from Blizzard about World of Warcraft. In our interview with Michael Bybee, one of the Senior Game Producers, we also discussed classes that WoW might get in the future.
We asked the question: “Which of these traditional RPG classes would fit best into WoW: Necromancer, Berserker or Bard?”
“When thinking about the Berserker, that is something that is probably already well represented in the Fury Warrior. The Necromancer as well – there are many little pieces that exist in the Death Knight or the Warlock. So these two are well represented.”
This also corresponds with Blizzard’s past statements that a Necromancer would probably not differ enough from the Warlock and Death Knight. After that, Bybee focused more on the Bard:
“Of everything you mentioned, the Bard is probably the closest to what World of Warcraft doesn’t have yet. So we are definitely not planning anything right now and are also not ready to talk about a new character class. But just for fun: I believe a Bard would add a lot of character to the game.”
However, a new class would also always bring problems. As Lead Environment Artist Ely Cannon pointed out:
“We just went through a major revamp of all classes. With something like this, you always have to keep balance in mind.”
What would you think about being able to enter battle as a Bard someday and empower players with healing or encouraging songs? Or how would you design a Bard class in World of Warcraft?
In the interview, we also asked about another thing:
