The latest cinematic with Anduin brings tears to players in World of Warcraft. Tears of sorrow for the Alliance, tears of anger for the Horde.
With Patch 7.2, there was a new questline in World of Warcraft that was exclusively offered to Alliance players. From the Broken Shore, one could retrieve a piece of jewelry that ultimately ends up in the hands of the young king Anduin Wrynn. The questline concludes with an exclusive cinematic for the Alliance and a generous amount of Artifact power.
In a blog post, the developers share how happy they were to find a deserving conclusion for Varian and to have the opportunity for him to say “goodbye” one last time. The entire quest has also clearly shown the struggles Anduin faces and ultimately led to his significant maturation.
From the perspective of many Horde players, this kind of presentation is quite messed up. There are numerous comments expressing dissatisfaction with Blizzard’s current method of storytelling.
“If you wanted all players to see this, why didn’t you just give Horde players a simple quest from Khadgar, where he says: ‘Oh, [player name], the fate of the Alliance is unfolding, watch and learn!’?
It is more frustrating for many Horde fans that they have no clarity about their own leaders. No one knows exactly who currently leads the Orcs (Saurfang is “the boss” but is mainly responsible for PvP success) and nothing is known about the trolls.
Furthermore, the Horde has practically had no impact in Legion, aside from some minor skirmishes in Suramar.
What do you think about this whole situation? Do you believe that Blizzard should consistently provide both sides with “equal” story content? Or is it acceptable for a certain part to come at the expense of one side?
Vol’jin could still offer story – at least there are some hints.
