Patch 7.2 of World of Warcraft greatly upgrades the Artifact weapons. We reveal what happens to your weapon!
The next patch of World of Warcraft carries the version number 7.2 and the name “Tomb of Sargeras”. In addition to a lot of new content in the form of dungeons, raids, and demon invasions, there are also new abilities for all Artifact weapons. Many of the existing abilities can be further developed – where previously only three points could be invested, now often four can be unlocked.
As soon as patch 7.2 is live, the following will happen with the Artifact weapons:
- A new, short quest line allows you to increase the power of the Artifact weapon. This quest is available when your weapon has reached at least level 35.
- Upon completion of the quest line, the weapon, if it was in the range of level 36-54, will be reset to 35 – all Artifact power will be refunded. At the same time, the new properties of the Artifact weapon will be unlocked.
- The “excess” Artifact power (that was refunded) can then be directly invested in the new properties.
Blizzard explicitly points out that it makes no sense to hoard items for acquiring Artifact power now. All Artifact power items collected before the weapon upgrade quest can no longer be used afterwards. So anyone who has already unlocked all 54 points of their Artifact weapon can invest the Artifact power without hesitation into their other weapons.
For all the crazy people who have already maxed out all Artifact weapons (this may be the case for Demon Hunters, as they only have two weapons): Since the last hotfix, it is possible to sell items for acquiring Artifact power to vendors for gold. Rare items give 5 gold, Rare items 25 gold, and Epic items even a whopping 100 gold coins.
