At BlizzCon 2023, the next expansion of World of Warcraft was announced. It is called ‘The War Within’.
BlizzCon 2023 has started, and during the opening ceremony, all major announcements are traditionally made. There was an immediate bombshell for fans of World of Warcraft, as the next expansion was revealed.
What is the expansion about? In the new expansion, heroes travel into the depths of Azeroth and visit new and familiar races. For example, the Earthen and the Nerubians, who live there. The entire storyline is set to take place within Azeroth – so there will primarily be ‘underground’ areas. We can be curious to see if Blizzard manages to deliver enough color and thematic variety here.
The reason for this is that Azeroth cries out from the depths of the planet. However, this is only the beginning of a saga that is expected to span several expansions.
The protagonists of the story are Anduin and Thrall. Anduin has just returned from the Shadowlands and apparently has great self-doubt. But Thrall manages to convince him to take action – only to be tormented again by the voice from within.
What are the highlights of the expansion? A few pieces of information have already been revealed:
- You will meet the Nerubians in their kingdom deep underground
- Earthen Dwarves will be a new allied race
- ‘Dragonriding’ comes for all flying mounts in the entire world
- There are ‘Delves’ as new mini-dungeons for small groups searching for treasures
- There are ‘Warbands’ for your characters – reputation and unlocks will be account-wide
- Transmog can be unlocked with any character in the collection – even if the character cannot wear a certain armor
When will The War Within be released? A release date for the new expansion has not yet been announced, other than ‘next year.’ However, it is expected that the release will take place in the 3rd or 4th quarter of 2024. As soon as there is an official release date, we will report on it.
