The players of the Horde draw new courage in World of Warcraft. Things are looking up again!
The last few days have been a heavy burden for all loyal players of the Horde who do not see themselves as brutal mass murderers. Thanks to the War of Thorns, they felt their identity was hurt and no longer wanted to follow Sylvanas. The cinematic “Old Warrior” now brings new hope to fans – not all of the Horde is cruel, but they need to stand together!
War of Thorns was a burden. With the War of Thorns, many players of the Horde felt uncomfortable. The attack and ultimately the burning of Teldrassil had little to do with honorable behavior, and many players concluded that Sylvanas is a purely evil person. Many said to themselves: “If I had the choice, I would not follow her.”
Alliance gained influx. Right after the release of Warbringer: Sylvanas, Reddit and the official forums were buzzing. Many players decided to switch to the Alliance with Battle for Azeroth. They no longer wanted to belong to a faction that must carry out the extermination of an entire people and has been instrumentalized by Sylvanas for genocide.
Moral gray remained absent. Fans were particularly disappointed by the developers’ promise that the Horde would have “moral shades” and would not only be purely evil – because this promise has not been fulfilled so far. Those who had always seen their Orc or Tauren as a wild but honorable warrior found it difficult to reconcile that with the game world. Even though the honor of Orcs is something different from “knightly honor,” the slaughtering of thousands of innocents who do not even put up a fight does not belong to it.
Saurfang Cinematic brought redemption. The new cinematic featuring Varok Saurfang and his views brings hope. The video shows that not all supporters of the Horde simply stand behind their war chief’s actions and cannot reconcile that conduct with their self-image. There is resistance against Sylvanas, even if only in concept so far. The common thought of the Horde unites.
“Zappy Boi” brings a good mood. Fans are particularly excited about the appearance of the young troll shaman, who appears right at the intro of Battle for Azeroth. In the community, he quickly became known as “Zappy Boi” (because he throws a chain lightning) and has since been the subject of numerous memes shouting “For the Horde!” The fact that he plays a significant role in “Old Warrior” brings a lot of good vibes among fans.
Initiatives for the Horde. Meanwhile, players are even calling for several actions to morally support the Horde. The best-known call is to hide the shoulder pieces, because Saurfang and “Zappy Boi” do that in the cinematic as well. We have already reported on that in this article.
In summary, the cinematic “Old Warrior” has given players new courage and has brought back some of their Horde identity. Tempers have calmed, and Chris Metzen was right – one should wait for the whole picture before passing judgment.
