Tanks in World of Warcraft have received a strong buff. They are now significantly better at holding enemies aggro.
Finding a tank in World of Warcraft is often quite difficult. This is not only because many players do not enjoy tanking, but also because as a tank, you have a lot of responsibility and need to possess extensive knowledge of all game content. After all, in groups, you set the pace and the route.
It is all the more frustrating when the few tanks that exist no longer enjoy this role because they constantly lose aggro. Therefore, Blizzard has now stepped in and significantly increased tank threat generation.
What was the problem? With the increasing item level, which is also boosted by the “Turbo-Boost” event, DPS characters can reach higher damage values in dungeons and raids. Especially in the “burst phases,” which often occur at the start of a fight, these characters can deal so much damage that many tanks cannot maintain threat anymore.
The result: Enemies happily stroll over to the DPS characters and usually knock them out of the game with a single blow.
A tank might intercept this once with a taunt, but as soon as that is on cooldown, things look bleak.
This led to increasing frustration in recent weeks, with many tanks stating that content in high-level “Mythic+” dungeons is no longer enjoyable because they simply cannot hold aggro against good DPS characters.
What has Blizzard changed now? Many tanks have noticed that since yesterday (12.06.2025), tanking has become significantly easier. This is due to Blizzard significantly increasing the threat generated by tanks.
Previously, tanks had a threat of 815%. This value has now been raised to 950%. This corresponds to an increase of 135% – or 16.5% in relation to the previous value.
The result is that tanks can now much more easily “hold aggro”; that is, build enough threat so that enemies do not run wild from character to character. This should also make high-level dungeons with well-equipped DPS characters more manageable.
Another buff concerns the Disturbing Visions – they are now much easier than before, even with 8 active masks!
