For casual players, World of Warcraft has a rude awakening in store. Many are currently unaware of what is happening to them in dungeons.
A few days ago, the 4th season of Dragonflight started in World of Warcraft. This is not only the last season before the launch of the next expansion “The War Within,” but there were also several innovations. The system around “M+” has been significantly overhauled. However, this change has simply passed by many players. The reason: WoW does not adequately inform the heroes of Azeroth.
What has changed? With the start of season 4 of WoW: Dragonflight, the difficulty of the dungeons has been significantly adjusted. While there used to be practically no difference between a “normal” and a “heroic” dungeon, this has now drastically changed. The entire dungeon system has been somewhat streamlined so that lower numbers and difficulties are already significantly more challenging.
It has changed as follows:
| This difficulty in season 4 … | … corresponds to difficulty season 3 |
|---|---|
| Normal | Normal |
| Heroic | Mythic (M0) |
| Mythic (M0) | Mythic +10 |
| Mythic +2 | Mythic +12 |
| Mythic +10 | Mythic +20 |
If you are currently visiting an M+2 dungeon, it corresponds to the difficulty of an M+12 dungeon from the last season – only with the difference that your gear is likely still quite poor.
Why haven’t players noticed this? The “problem” mainly affects players who do not obtain information about World of Warcraft from external sources – and that is a pretty large portion. Those who follow news or community sites will have noticed the change in advance, but everyone else is caught relatively unprepared.
Because even in the game, there is no concrete indication of what has actually changed. It is simply referred to as an “overhaul of the dungeon system” – without addressing that this primarily refers to the difficulty levels.
So if you are wondering why no one wants to take you with item level 440 into a “boring M+2” – it’s because it actually corresponds to a “Mythic+12” from the last season, and it is additionally just the first week of the new season. There is still a lack of equipment everywhere so that the challenges are a bit harder.
Community complains about lack of communication: In the WoW subreddit, the lack of information is being discussed. Especially “casuals” have not noticed this adjustment at all and are now having frustrating experiences time and again.
Because if someone cheerfully enters a “mythic” dungeon (M0) now, they will suddenly be stomped into the ground. For example, Abrakadabraman writes:
I logged in after not playing for a few months and decided to try Neltharus. My Prot Paladin was sent directly to the core of Azeroth by the chain boss. – But I don’t want to lie, I really like the changes.
Walt_Jrs_Breakfast has also had negative experiences with it:
I have had this problem also in M0 … people really have too poor equipment and should only be doing heroic dungeons at most. This change affects casual players more and they have no idea about it.
What have you accomplished in “M+” this week? Have you already been M+10 and higher? Or are you slowly getting used to the new difficulty?
