World of Warcraft wants smaller numbers. In the new expansion, all characters deal less damage. We reveal the reason for this.
Over the years, the numbers for attributes and damage in World of Warcraft have gotten quite out of hand. While in Classic times a Fireball with 2,000 damage points was the pinnacle, we now tiredly smile at hits dealing 2,000,000 damage points in Legion.
Value Shrinking Reduces All Attributes in WOW
Since larger numbers are not always better, Blizzard will again pull the emergency brake with Battle for Azeroth and perform a “Stat Squish.” Ion Hazzikostas revealed this in the “Developer Q&A” panel at BlizzCon. This means that the attributes of all characters in the game will be drastically reduced and lowered to a reasonable level. Conversely, this also means that enemies will lose health points and will not hit as brutally.
The relationship of forces is to remain the same, only the numbers will shrink.
So anyone who can kill any opponent in 3 seconds will still be able to do so after the adjustment.
This time, however, Blizzard is taking another step further and shrinking the item level of all items in the game, ensuring that the values are more appropriate.
A “Stat Squish” has already occurred once during the transition from Mists of Pandaria to Warlords of Draenor. However, only the attributes of the characters were weakened, not the item level.
This led to absurd situations when switching from “The Burning Crusade” to “Wrath of the Lich King.” Players received items that were 100 or more item levels better, but only provided 2 or 3 more stamina points. This felt wrong and inappropriate.
Blizzard gives an advance warning: the ability of a character to solo old content (such as old raids) will not be diminished by the value adjustment.
