Artificial intelligences can do a lot these days and are constantly learning more. A player of World of Warcraft has thought about what it would look like if an AI turned well-known WoW characters into real people. However, the results are rather horrifying.
This is what the AI shows: YouTube user Miroslav Yegorov uploaded a video where the AI “PULSE” from Duke University brings various characters from World of Warcraft to life.
It uses images from the game or from cinematics and creates realistic photos of people based on them. It roughly shows what a video game character would look like in real life. However, it seems to struggle with some graphics and displays:
- the demon hunter Illidan as a woman with crooked teeth
- Anduin as an older, quite androgynous gentleman, possibly also as an older woman
- the young Arthas as a relatively bald middle-aged man
- Jaina Proudmoore as a kind of drag artist
Whether this is due to the quality of the AI or because it couldn’t process the images correctly, we can’t say for sure. We have embedded the full video here for you:
Arthas and Co. in a soon-to-be reunion
Many of the characters shown are still relevant or will be in the upcoming expansion Shadowlands. For example, Arthas was featured in the “Afterlife” video from Bastion alongside his former mentor Uther.
Since the Shadowlands represent the realm of the dead, we will encounter many characters from WoW’s lore again. The upcoming updates for the expansion may even hold more surprises.
However, Anduin, who is shown multiple times in the video, is currently trapped in the underworld, which presents a significant dilemma for Azeroth. After all, he is the King of Stormwind and the leader of the Alliance. Someone else holds the throne in his absence, who could possibly cause a new conflict.
