The extra chances for good loot in World of Warcraft are disappearing. However, not all players like this; after all, loot is being lost.
The “Bonus Rolls” are a fixed part of the loot distribution in World of Warcraft and a nice opportunity for additional loot. However, with the upcoming expansion Shadowlands, this option will be removed. The player base is divided on this change, as there are pros and cons.
What were the Bonus Rolls? Since the expansion “Mists of Pandaria”, there have been Bonus Rolls or also Bonus Throws in WoW. This gives players the chance to roll for loot a second time when defeating certain bosses in the endgame. This previously allowed them to obtain multiple items from a boss or, with particularly bad luck, still get some loot. The Bonus Rolls are strictly limited. Each player can use only a few of them per week. By the way, there is no guarantee for bonus loot.
What about Shadowlands? With Shadowlands, Bonus Rolls belong to the past. The system will not be carried over to the latest expansion. On one hand, this eliminates the bonus chance for loot, but on the other hand, it also removes the obligation to acquire bonus coins every week.
Why is Blizzard doing this? The developers want to pursue the philosophy “Loot is just loot” in Shadowlands. This means that there will be no additional effects like Titanforging or special procs like Corruption that can be on an item. The only random component left is whether an item drops at all or not – just as it was in Classic, The Burning Crusade, and Wrath of the Lich King.
Bonus Rolls were essentially another RNG element that has now been abolished.
Players are divided: The announcement is causing mixed reactions among the player base and seems to be splitting the WoW community into two camps.
One group is happy that the system is being removed. After all, they had to buy the bonus rolls expensively and were often “punished” because the bonus roll only brought in a few miserable gold coins or some artifact power.
The other group is more disappointed. There is already less loot in Shadowlands than in previous expansions. Losing another source of good equipment is perceived as excessive by many players. They hope that Blizzard will reconsider and allow Bonus Rolls again later.
