Ashkandi, Greatsword of the Brotherhood
Over the course of a hero’s life, many different weapons pass through the hands of the player’s character. However, even before the artifact weapons from World of Warcraft: Legion, there were always weapons to which players had a special bond.
One of these weapons is Ashkandi, Greatsword of the Brotherhood. This blade still drops from Nefarian in the Blackwing Lair today.
Back then, the weapon – apart from its fantastic stats for warriors and paladins (and even some hunters) – was a prestige item. Anyone standing in Ironforge or Orgrimmar in front of the auction house with it could be sure to be admired and congratulated by a whole bunch of players. Because owning Ashkandi also meant that you had defeated Nefarian. And that alone was an accomplishment that only a fraction of players could achieve back then.
