Monte Gazlowe
Monte Gazlowe, usually just called “Gazlowe”, is the current trade prince of the Bilgewater cartel – the goblins who belong to the Horde. He is the replacement for trade prince Jastor Gallywix, who fled in “Battle for Azeroth” and has been missing ever since.
For a goblin, Gazlowe is quite unusual, especially as an employer. He not only pays his employees excellently but also allows unions and pays different bonuses, such as hazard pay. At the same time, he is committed to the survival of his employees. This conduct – extremely unusual for goblins – has ensured that Gazlowe has the best goblin team in all of Azeroth and that no one rivals him for his employees.
Gazlowe maintained his neutrality for a long time, even as the leader of the city of Ratchet. He does not care where the gold comes from – whether from the Horde or the Alliance. Only in later years did he work more intensively for the Horde, among others as their chief engineer.
It is obvious that Blizzard has more planned for him in The War Within. A new short story on the WoW site shows how Gazlowe is trying to change the culture of the goblins, and early leaks suggest that the goblins will play a major role in the first patch of The War Within.
Xal’atath
Xal’atath is an extremely complex and multifaceted character. Originally, she comes from Legion and was the artifact weapon for shadow priests there. What exactly she is, remains unknown. Some suspect she is an early Old God, while others believe she is the severed claw of the Old God Y’shaarj.
However, it is clear that Xal’atath was able to escape from her prison during “Battle for Azeroth” because she manipulated the heroes into freeing her. She took possession of the body of a dead elf and has since been wandering through the cosmos.
In Dragonflight, she reappears and is allied with the dragon Iridikron. She is given the “Dark Heart”, charged with the essence of Galakrond. A powerful artifact that she will use in The War Within and is prominently featured in the trailers.
She has since been collecting the blood of the fallen Old Gods and has also tried to bring the Void Elves under her control, which has so far been prevented by the heroes and Alleria.

Anduin Wrynn
Anduin Wrynn is likely still a name most are familiar with, even though he has undergone many changes in the last expansions.
As the son of Varian Wrynn, Anduin is the current High King of the Alliance and the leader of the kingdom of Stormwind. He led the troops in the war against the Horde during “Battle for Azeroth”. Although he mainly acts as a priest and peace is his highest goal, he knows how to defend himself and takes up his father’s sword when there is no other way out.
With Shadowlands, Anduin was captured by the Jailer and Sylvanas. After a long time in captivity, he was forced by domination runes to perform some brutal actions for the Jailer and to advance the Jailer’s plans.
After his rescue, Anduin is clearly traumatized. He is not ready to return to Azeroth and leaves the Alliance and his friends behind as he embarks on an uncertain journey that lasts several years.
Currently, Anduin’s whereabouts are unknown, which is why Turalyon takes over the leadership of the Alliance and the Human Kingdom on his behalf. However, with The War Within, Anduin will return and take on a larger role again – at least that’s what the first trailer promises, which shows Anduin and Thrall discussing.
