Two new cutscenes in World of Warcraft are live – and they determine the fate of Sylvanas Windrunner.
Actually, the current story campaign in World of Warcraft is already over, but this week Blizzard is unlocking a small bonus chapter, granting access to two new cutscenes that deal with the fate of Sylvanas Windrunner. We will show you both videos in English and explain what they mean.
Spoiler alert: If you do not want to know how it ends for Sylvanas, do not continue reading. You have been warned.
After the Jailer was defeated and Pelagos ascended as the new Arbiter, many storylines in World of Warcraft have come to an end. However, an important detail remains: The judgment of Sylvanas Windrunner.
Before the assembled heroes of Horde, Alliance, and the Covenants, Sylvanas faces her trial under the Arbiter Pelagos. He asks Sylvanas if she knows before whom she must answer. Sylvanas herself makes the decision that Tyrande Whisperwind should be her judge.
After all, Tyrande and her people have suffered the most under Sylvanas – atrocities like the burning of Teldrassil, where the Night Elves were almost wiped out, are far from forgotten.
Tyrande is skeptical that Sylvanas has chosen her as the speaker of the judgment. After all, the Sylvanas she hunted would never simply surrender to the enemy’s blade.
Therefore, Tyrande has a better idea than simply killing Sylvanas. From now on, Sylvanas is to roam the Maw and search for all souls that unjustly ended up there because of her actions. She must locate each individual soul and bring them to the Arbiter so that he can issue a new judgment. Tyrande’s guardian owl will oversee this process.
Sylvanas accepts her fate and jumps into the Maw. She is likely to undertake this task in the foreseeable future.
Lip syncing is noticeably better: The two cutscenes also show a development at Blizzard. Although these are “only” in-game cutscenes, the lip synchronization in these two (rather long) sequences is particularly good, something that often looked absurdly comical in many older sequences of this kind. Apparently, it was important for Blizzard to work here especially well.
When can this be seen in the game? For European players, the sequences will be unlocked only tomorrow, on 30.03.2022 – and only then if you have completed the current Covenant campaign around Zereth Mortis. In that case, you can take on the final quests immediately after the server maintenance and watch the German version of it in the game.
