“Rest in peace” apparently does not apply to the MMO Worlds Adrift. Before its closure, the game is being bombarded with negative reviews on Steam.
A few days ago we reported that the MMO Worlds Adrift is closing while still in “Early Access”. It is no longer financially sustainable for the developer, which is why the game is being shut down. This has resulted in angry reactions, as the game is currently flooded with negative reviews on Steam.
What happened? Worlds Adrift is an MMO in Early Access that is now being discontinued before its actual release. The servers will close in July, and the development of the project has already been halted.
The reason for this was that the game was no longer considered “economically viable” from the developers’ perspective. They did not meet their objectives, failed to fulfill expectations, and are now pulling the plug. This has consequences for the game’s rating.
Negative reviews are on the rise: Although the average rating of Worlds Adrift is still at an acceptable 67% positive opinions, the current picture looks gloomier. More than 64% of the ratings in the last 30 days are negative, and the trend is continuing downward.
Most players are disappointed with the developer or describe the game as a “cash grab” that should never have been completed. Many are demanding compensation.
Here are a few opinions from the reviews:
- [EE].gk: “Repeated delays in the roadmaps and very slow progress, especially in the last few years. Promises were made until the game was suddenly canceled, which never left Early Access but made a lot of money. I am disappointed in the developers and will be suspicious of all their new projects.”
- Peap: “Despite the errors in the game, I had a lot of fun and am disappointed in Bossa Studios for closing the game. They could have at least let players use private servers.”
- Wingnut sees it even more critically: “Basically theft, legalized by unfair software regulations. This is the worst aspect of Early Access on Steam.”
Some players are grateful: However, in the last few days, there have also been some positive reviews mourning a great game from their perspective. They thank the developer who fought for the game. For example, the user Obermedic writes:
“I am very sad that I can no longer enjoy the game. It was revolutionary for its time, even if it has many problems.”
Did you play Worlds Adrift? Did you enjoy the game? And what do you think about such “review bombing”?
