Game developer Wargaming is changing course with its naval combat MMO World of Warships and is now presenting a pure gameplay video instead of cinematics. Is this a sign that they are picking up speed with the latest Free2Play offshoot and are swimming full speed ahead towards release?
After World of Tanks and World of Warplanes, they are setting sail with World of Warships for the first time. With battleships, aircraft carriers and fighter planes, the navy covers another chapter in warfare. After tanks and planes, this was the next logical step to further solidify their dominance in war simulations. Wargaming is considered the market leader in this specific niche.
But when will World of Warships be released? There is no official release date yet, but the number of beta participants is steadily increasing. This is often an indication in the industry that the game is gradually maturing for a wider audience and that the release date is not far off.
Just last week, over 50,000 players participated worldwide in a beta weekend, as Wargaming visualized in an infographic. This was the first major event after the maiden voyage at Gamescom. In the official forums, players who participated in these naval battles are speaking of a fairly well-developed beta version. Release estimates range from the 3rd quarter of 2015 to early 2016. In a Q&A stream, a developer assured that they are planning a release in 2015.
