There is a new scandal in World of Warships. A critical streamer was recently insulted by a hidden message in a bonus code. Wargaming reacted quickly, apparently fired the responsible employee, and humorously apologized.
Who is it about? The Russian streamer Turry (link to his YouTube channel) regularly streams Wargaming’s game World of Warships.
Turry was previously a Community Contributor. However, unlike many prominent streamers who voluntarily left the program to protest against what they perceive as unfair pricing policies from Wargaming, Turry was allegedly excluded by the developers according to statements from the Wargaming forum (via forum) because he had sharply criticized them multiple times. He allegedly accused them of not even playing their own game.
What was the insulting code? In an official Wargaming World of Warships stream, bonus codes for free goodies were recently distributed – a completely normal action at such events. The bonus code was “W0LAXU5FKUTURY5” and soon English-speaking users in the forum (via forum) asked if no one noticed that the code basically says “FUCK YOU TURRY”.
The letter combination “FKUTURY” seems quite obvious and cannot be just a coincidence.
Wargaming acknowledges the insult and fires the responsible person
Was it really intended? While there was still debate about whether the letters were a malicious parting shot at the inconvenient streamer or just a bizarre coincidence, Wargaming dispelled the rumors with an official statement revealing that there was indeed malicious intent behind the code.
However, it was not an official action by the company, but rather the act of revenge by a single employee. The message translated from Russian from the Wargaming forum (via forum) reads:
Friends!
As you know, last Friday a bonus code with inappropriate content was distributed on our official stream, which insulted our player and popular streamer Turry. Such behavior is absolutely unacceptable. We conducted an internal inspection and found that this situation arose from the actions of an employee. He has been suspended and the strictest measures have been taken against him following the review.
On behalf of the “World of Warships” team, we would like to apologize to the players, the viewers of the Friday night stream, and especially to Turry. We made a completely unacceptable remark about him and are fully aware of our responsibility.
We understand that words alone are not enough, and we would like to offer you a bonus code: TURRYWEARESORRY.
Is the streamer reconciled now? Turry, who initially felt upset and angry according to his statement to PCGamer (via PCGamer), is now at least partially reconciled. He appreciates Wargaming’s honest statement and also the additional bonus codes he received exclusively for his community.
On the other hand, he does not know if Wargaming’s measures are genuinely truthful. He is unsure who this mysterious employee was and whether he was really fired or punished in any other way.
Turry, by the way, was also not brought back into the Community Contributor program, but the streamer noted that he did not want to return there anyway.
You can play World of Warships on consoles, PC, and via Steam. It is among the 7 largest Free2Play MMOs.
