In the latest expansion of World of Warcraft, “Warlords of Draenor”, Blizzard has of course not missed the chance to bring some new mounts into the game. As usual, some of them are quite easy to obtain, while others require either a large group, a lot of perseverance, or simply an oversized portion of luck. Rare mounts, indeed.
We have compiled the current information here so that you can hunt and catch some of these animals yourself.
As of our current knowledge, there are 7 mounts that can only be obtained from certain enemies, starting with “Garn Nighthowler”.
Where is Garn Nighthowler?
This oversized wolf is located in the far west of Frostfire Ridge and can be hunted by “Nok-Karosh.” However, do not hope to take down this monster alone, as it has over 10 million HP, makes quick work of any cloth wearer, and is also surrounded by numerous smaller wolves, all of which have over 2 million HP. A full group with tank and healer is advisable, but a larger raid group could also be a wise decision. Also important to know is that the mount drops only once – not everyone who participated in the fight automatically gets it!
So be careful not to join a shady group whose leader is the “Loot Master” and crafts the mount for themselves.
If you have organized a few friends, it only takes a few hours – Nok-Karosh reappears just a few minutes after his death (15-30 minutes) and can then be defeated again until all group members have the mount – those who want can even sell it at the auction house…
Where are the other rare WoD mounts?
The situation is a bit more difficult with the other 6, the following animals can be found in the vastness of Draenor:
- Pathrunner in Shadowmoon Valley
- Mudhide in Talador
- Nakk in Nagrand
- Luk’hok in Nagrand
- Gorok in Frostfire Ridge
- Ramthaw in Gorgrond
These 6 are all “rare” enemies, and their respawn time is between 20 and 30 hours – a good portion of luck or perseverance is therefore required. However, the advantage is that all players involved in the fight are guaranteed to receive the mount, regardless of how much damage they inflict or which faction they belong to.
It is also important to note that Draenor is divided into several instances and phases – depending on your personal quest progress, it may be that you cannot see certain rare enemies at all, while others appear twice. Each phase has its own rare spawn timer; unfortunately, it is difficult to check which one you are currently in.
Although you can often deal with most of these enemies on your own, it is a kind gesture to announce in the general channel that the respective enemy is standing in front of you – you lose nothing by doing so, and perhaps someone will return the favor when you want to catch one of the other animals.
