In World of Warcraft, WoW, something special is planned for Halloween. With a costume, even the smallest goblin can transform into the fearsome Lich King.
We gladly admit, writing about seasonal events in MMOs is not exactly our favorite job. Not only in World of Warcraft are they the same year after year. Moreover, 15 MMOs all have the same idea for Halloween – there are more exciting things to discuss.
But in World of Warcraft, this time they really thought of something nice for Hallow’s End.
With a new costume, you can step into the role of a truly dark character.
On Twitter, World of Warcraft revealed a short gif with “There must always be a Lich King.” And the data miners from wowhead immediately found out what the costume is about: it will contain 50 charges. Hallow’s End runs from October 18 to November 1.

What’s New for Hallow’s End 2014
Additionally, the loot from the Headless Horseman has been increased from 470 to 540 – and well, it might be attractive to check out again. There are also two new pets. And costumes for the “Pug Companion”, the pet you get for participating in random groups, will be added as well.
So new 540 rings, plate helm, sword, and lots of fine trinkets. This guide from Icy Veins elaborates on the event.
We better skip the pictures of the rings; they don’t look as impressive after the current item squish, do they?
Issues with the Arthas Costume – Users Thought It Was an April Fools’ Joke
Update 19.10: There has been a bit of stress over the Arthas costume in the US forums. While it is cool, it’s also buggy. Instead of starting with the planned 50 charges, it apparently only came with 1. However, Blizzard wanted to see 1000 “Tricks or Treats”, and during an event, it’s impossible to earn that many candies, the event currency for Hallow’s End. Some players in the forum already wondered if this might be an early April Fools’ joke.
Bashiok, Blizzard’s Community Manager, has since commented on this. The Arthas costume is indeed supposed to be rare and difficult to obtain, but not impossible. Therefore, they want to ensure that the costume costs only half, has 50 charges, and those should last 20 minutes and still work after the event. This, however, is not officially confirmed yet; it is a case for the hotfix blog.
