With the upcoming patch 6.2, there will be an expansion of the garrison in World of Warcraft alongside the new area Tanaan Jungle. If you reach level 100 and have a garrison of level 3, you can start building the shipyard because: Draenor’s seas are fiercely contested!
New Resources, New Missions
Ships must be built in the shipyard, which takes some time. However, once they are ready, you can send them on missions to slowly but surely conquer the waters of Draenor for yourselves.
Unlike your followers, ships do not consume garrison resources on their missions; instead, they require oil – which can coincidentally only be found in the new jungle area of Tanaan. While you gather the raw material on foot, it can be immediately used to send the fleet out.
Follower Missions 2.0 in World of Warcraft? – Almost!
At first glance, this resembles the regular follower missions, which have now gained a reputation as “browser games.” Even on second glance, the differences are not that massive, aside from one small but significant detail: The ships can sink and thus be destroyed.
This means you not only lose the time it took to build the ship but also any experience points it has accumulated thus far. Tactical planning should therefore play a larger role in naval missions, as even a “97%” mission can end in a painful defeat.
Various Ship Types
Different dangers require different measures; therefore, there are numerous ship models, each with its own strengths and weaknesses. A submarine, for example, can approach enemy ships without being seen, whereas a destroyer lays mines in the water that destroy submarines. Battleships counter destroyers, and carriers counter battleships. It seems that variety and tactical planning are covered – at least until an interface addon takes over this task as well.
