Chromatic Sword
Only a few will remember the Chromatic Sword that could be obtained many years ago in Stranglethorn Vale from a particular lizard. The sword can simply be described as “useless” because instead of providing reasonable stats, it only provides +7 to all resistances – which is as desperately needed by a level 40 hero as a sudden, hours-long server maintenance on the only free day of the year. However, the blade has a unique visual effect: it shimmers in all the colors of the rainbow.
This effect cannot be achieved with any enchantment in the game, and that is why it is unique. Only a few copies of this sword remain and lie dormant in the banks of former characters.
Unlike many other objects, the blade cannot even be obtained from the salvage yard of the garrison – it is a rare relic that becomes rarer with each passing day. No wonder it appears very infrequently, but when it does, it is for more than 300,000 gold.
Corrupted Ashbringer
No list of rare items is complete without the Corrupted Ashbringer. During the Classic era, the weapon could be obtained in the raid “Naxxramas”, and even today, numerous legends surround this sword, which is not surprising considering all it could do. When equipped, you would temporarily be set to “hatred” with the Argent Dawn, which made a safe spot in the Plaguelands a pure death trap.
But that’s not all! Those who wield the sword are constantly plagued by strange whispers that slowly gnaw at the character’s sanity.
But the horror doesn’t end there. If you wanted to, you could easily take over as the leader of the Scarlet Crusade, as the NPCs in the Scarlet Monastery would become friendly, and a very special event would take place – however, this questline was never finished and ended too soon. But today, this weapon is a powerful relic – and whoever possesses it holds a piece of WoW history.
