On World of Warcraft there was some commotion in the forum regarding the planned changes to the Water Striders. They should soon stay on land.
Will the Water Striders Stay on Dry Land?
If players of World of Warcraft cannot stand one thing, it is the retroactive devaluation of hard-earned rewards. The latest patch on the alpha servers of the upcoming expansion “Legion” should allow just that. The problem was the so-called “Water Strider” mounts, which were introduced with Mist of Pandaria. These are – as the name suggests – capable of marching over most bodies of water and thus provide a significant advantage over almost all other mounts, especially when flying is not permitted in an area.
Since these mounts are often associated with a high farming effort – in Warlords of Draenor, you had to catch 100 very rare fish for it – the community was outraged when it was said: In Legion, the mounts would no longer be able to walk on water.
This sparked a heated discussion in the forum, during which Blizzard initially explained that the changes were important to avoid “forcing” players to certain mounts – after all, there are over 300 cool mounts and only a handful of Water Striders.
The community defended the Water Striders and stated that there are quite a few other methods to walk on water. There was no reason to take away something of its unique ability – because it is not that unique.
After initially proposing a compromise, where the Water Striders would only stay on the ground in the areas of “Legion”, a complete reversal of the changes was ultimately decided. After internal discussions and considering the feedback, it was concluded that Water Striders would continue to walk on water in Legion. Somehow, “Water Strider that can only walk on certain water” would also be a very impractical name for a mount.
