The update 9.19 released today for World of Tanks offers ranked battles and a new currency. With it, you can acquire better equipment, which presents an unfair advantage for many players. Accordingly, there is considerable frustration right now.
Update 9.19 for World of Tanks is here and it’s actually a good thing. Finally, there are ranked battles with leaderboards and a special currency called Bonds. You can purchase special items with it. But not fancy new skins and camouflages as in World of Warships. Rather, there are special upgrades and consumables in World of Tanks that grant a significant advantage.
World of Tanks – Update 9.19 – The best get even better
The big problem many players have with the new items: They are both really powerful and extremely expensive! You have to invest between 2,000 and 5,000 Bonds to get an item.
You receive Bonds at the end of each week of the ranked season, depending on your rank achieved during that time. At the highest rank 5, this would be 500 Bonds. Poor players at rank 1 only receive 100 Bonds. At the end of the season, 10 percent of the best players receive a one-time reward of 5,750 Bonds, the next 15 percent receive 3,250, and the next 25 percent get 1,500 Bonds.
This means that only the best players can reliably purchase one to two of the new parts. The rest will be left watching as a highly skilled top player not only has an advantage through skill but also through superior equipment.
This makes it even less likely to defeat such players as an inferior gamer.
Update 9.19 – Hardcore players also disadvantaged
Sure, the so-called “sealclubbers”, top gamers who hang out in lower tiers to shoot newbies by the dozen, are now even more obnoxious. But hardcore gamers in clan wars also have disadvantages. It may well be that a clan leader will only take you into combat in the future if you have top-tier gear.
And since destroyed tanks are temporarily locked in clan wars, you must dismantle the valuable equipment each time for expensive real money gold from the wreck and install it in a fresh tank.
This will force top players to spend even more money.
Players angry, how will Wargaming respond?
All these points are viewed similarly by a large part of the community. Especially since there has likely been significant community feedback against the new gear from a majority of players for a long time.
The thread about the update in the official forum is already about 80 pages long and consists mostly of angry postings. Even renowned YouTubers like Mootality, the biggest community contributor to WoT in Germany, are not happy with the update. We have embedded Mootality’s video here for you.
With so much anger about a recently released update, we at Wargaming inquired immediately. We are currently waiting for an official statement. As soon as we know more, we will update this article, so stay tuned!
What do you think of the whole thing regarding update 9.19? Do you see it like Mootality and most users or do you think the new system is fair and just? And do you think that Wargaming will ultimately listen to the players and change something in the update? Let us know in the comments!
