The tank simulation World of Tanks claims to have broken the 100 million barrier in combination with its sister game World of Warplanes. The ports on Xbox 360 and iOS have contributed to this. WoT aims to continue progressing in this direction.
According to a report from GamesinAsia, the tank simulation World of Tanks, along with World of Warplanes, now has 100 million players, which does not reflect the number of active players but rather the total number of accounts ever created. The majority of players are surely from World of Tanks. The vast majority of them likely drive their tanks on PC, but the expansion of tank warfare to iOS and Xbox 360 has probably brought in the missing millions. The Xbox 360 version has already attracted 3.8 million players since its launch in February. The iOS version, World of Tanks Blitz, has been downloaded over 5 million times.
That leaves just over 90 million for the PC. Impressive numbers. The CEO of Wargaming.net states that World of Tanks has created and occupied a niche. The current jump is attributed to the successful port to Xbox 360 and iOS, and this is also a direction that they want to pursue further.
To celebrate the occasion and for Gamescom, a new trailer has been produced.
