World of Tanks is getting reinforcements from Sweden, as none other than action hero Dolph Lundgren presents the new research lines of the Nordic tanks in Wargaming’s tank MMO as the “Swedish Tank Ambassador”.
The developers at Wargaming seem to be big fans of action-packed movies from the 80s and 90s. After already enlisting Steven Seagal as an employee for World of Warships, now it’s Dolph Lundgren’s turn. The action hero has been invited to Minsk as the “Swedish Tank Ambassador” just in time for the introduction of the new Swedish tanks. Furthermore, Lundgren will also open the big Wargaming party in Moscow on December 17th. However, whether we will also get the tough Swede as a tank commander for the tanks of his homeland is still unknown.
A Brand New Gameplay
But even without Dolph Lundgren, the new Swedish tanks are a real asset to World of Tanks. Whether you believe it or not, the Nordics actually had a considerable tank force during World War II, which was solely designed for the defense of their mountainous and rugged homeland. As a result, Swedish tanks usually have good gun depression angles and can effectively engage enemies from elevated positions, who ideally cannot elevate their guns. (ha ha, guns!)
This makes Swedish tank destroyers particularly good snipers, and to top it off, they are as flat as Swedish flounders. This makes them hard to spot and difficult to hit.
As a special feature, Swedish tank destroyers from tier 8 onwards have a driving and a firing mode. This makes them somewhat reminiscent of siege tanks from StarCraft, as in driving mode they zip through the vegetation at breakneck speed, while in firing mode, although they are turtle-slow, they have particularly good depression angles, accuracy, and reload times.
Jürgen says: Old Swede, the tanks from the far north not only look pretty awesome – I love these flat flounders – they also seem to be really strong. I really like the alternative mode for the high-tier TDs. If I could get Dolph Lundgren as a tank commander and hear him say “I will break you” as a special voice line, I would be completely happy!
In real life, Lundgren was too big to be recruited for the tank troops in Sweden! And who knows, maybe in the end, we will get all the cult action heroes from the 80s and 90s in tanks and ships. I’m still hoping for Arnold Schwarzenegger and Chuck Norris. Arnie even has a real tank at home!
No interest in tanks? Wargaming is currently also working on an online version of the Total War series!
