In World of Tanks, we will soon not only blast tanks, but also play soccer with the steel colossi. On the occasion of the 2016 European Championship, Wargaming has announced the popular tank soccer game mode.
Soccer and tanks don’t go together? Not true, because on the occasion of the Football European Championship, the popular tank soccer mode is also making a comeback in World of Tanks! In this fun game variant, six players fight in a 3vs3 match for a ball, which they literally “blast” into the goal with precise cannon shots. Additionally, there’s a “turbocharger” for quick speed boosts.

All of this is played with the special T-62a Sport, a tank variant that is only available for the event and which every player automatically receives in their garage. Simply click on the tank and press “Battle” to get started! By the way, you cannot destroy the tanks of other players, only their tracks can be damaged temporarily by fire and need to be repaired. There are three maps for the new game mode: Himmelsdorf Arena, Stade Eiffel, and Old Tankford. The tank soccer game mode starts on June 1, 2016, and is expected to run for 30 days.
On to the tank soccer tournament!
Besides the quick fun, there’s also something for true e-sports professionals. From June 1 to June 15, teams of three players can register for the official championship in tank soccer, and the four best teams will receive one year of premium for free as well as a Type 59 tank. Additionally, the top four teams from Europe will compete in the finals against the top four teams from the CIS. A prize pool of 5,000 US dollars is at stake!
