World of Tanks is currently celebrating the 10th anniversary of the game in 2020 in various stages. In the 2nd phase of the celebrations, the developers are bringing back a feature that was actually too annoying to stay in the game, along with new tasks.
What feature is this? Your tanks now have loud horns! These horns are called “battle horns” and were briefly in the game 9 years ago. During the testing of patch 0.7.0 in 2011, the developers had briefly added horns for the tanks.
However, since the constant honking was rather annoying and distracted from the battle, the feature was removed and never made it into the final version of the update.
True veterans of World of Tanks will still remember the horn concerts back then with a mix of amusement and horror.
Tanks now honk, but not infinitely
How do the horns work now? Since the developers do not want to overdo the potential annoyance of the feature, there are safeguards:
- You can use the horn 3 times in a row or in any time interval.
- With each subsequent honk, the volume of the horn decreases.
- After several consecutive honks, a cooldown occurs, and the horn begins to “reload”.
- The reload time depends on how often the horn has been activated. It takes between 30 and 60 seconds.
Nevertheless, the horn is well audible, and both friend and foe can hear it within a 200-meter radius. The sound of the horn depends on the weight of your tank. On the official Wargaming page, you can listen to the horns.
How do I use the horn? By default, the horn is mapped to the “K” key.
How long can you use the horn now? From May 18 to May 25, 2020, you can use the horns in the game.
This is terrible! Can I turn it off? If you don’t like the horns and they distract you from the game, you can completely disable them. Go to the Game Settings. Under the general settings tab, you can check “Disable Horn”.
Act 2 of the big anniversary starts
What else is included in the update? From May 18 to May 25, 2020, Act 2 of the anniversary missions will take place. You will have access to 3 mission blocks and can complete three thematic tasks with increasing difficulty within them. For this, you will receive anniversary coins.
With those, you can buy funny items in the anniversary shop. These are fun gimmicks from the game’s past, like special colors and stickers for your tanks.
