The action RPG Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem has received the final part of the major update “The Second Dawn”, which aims to address most of the issues that have plagued the game since its release. Is it worth playing Wolcen again?
What does the major patch change? Actually, there have been 11 patches in total that have been revising the hack and slash for about 5 months now. These updates have tackled the major problems of Wolcen based on player feedback to create a polished and stable action RPG. Among these improvements are:
- Active skills have been revamped
- There are plenty of balancing adjustments
- The client is running more stably
- The localization has been improved
- There are many bug fixes
- Adjustments to the boss opponents have been made
- The user interface has been improved, fixing issues with incorrect displays
- The enemy AI has been enhanced
- There should now be fewer crashes
What’s next for Wolcen
Do all problems belong to the past now? No. The team is open and explains that there are certainly still more issues to address. Just because the major overhaul phase is now complete, doesn’t mean there won’t be further hotfixes and patches. These will now take place additionally.
What about new content? Initially, it was planned to quickly introduce new content after the release of Wolcen. However, after the failed launch, players first demanded a revision to bring Wolcen to a good state. Therefore, “The Second Dawn” was interjected to save the hack and slash.
However, the development team is now again focusing on creating new content. The Chronicle 1 is supposed to be released in autumn, bringing new content, gameplay innovations, and performance improvements.
Current state? Better than at launch
Is it worth playing Wolcen again? Much has changed in Wolcen over the past 5 months. However, despite the new update, there are still complaints from players who encounter problems.
- CrowRezin writes on Steam: “It still has a lot of problems. I played for about an hour today and kept running into small annoying bugs. They have fixed some issues, but it still feels like a beta to me.”
- Grim states: “The game still has a long way to go. There are still tons of annoying bugs, even with the UI, and it’s just frustrating. The game still lags when fighting large amounts of monsters.”
- Matt is quite disappointed with the current update: “5 months with a lot of promises and in the end, it’s just a numbers adjustment? That’s a disappointment for me.”
- jasonbrady33 is having fun: “Listen, it’s fun! I’m only in chapter 2 and I know the endgame matters, but I had a better gaming experience at the beginning than in Diablo 3.”
- ArTisT also finds Wolcen good: “It’s a solid action RPG. Yes, there are still bugs… But with a bit more time, they will smooth out the problems and make the game something special.”
Summarizing the voices of players after the update, Wolcen still has problems to tackle and more patches are needed. Nevertheless, it is a better gaming experience than at launch in February 2020.
So it is definitely worth checking back in and seeing what has changed. However, you should still expect the odd issue.
