Wizards Unite has launched in Germany. But what do the first players say about the AR game and which aspects are not well received?
What is Wizards Unite? This is the latest game from Pokémon GO developer Niantic. Here, you must protect the magical world of Harry Potter from revelation to the Muggle world and free or battle numerous characters from the saga.
The game was released nationwide in Germany on June 22, 2019, for Android and iOS.
How is Wizards Unite received by players?
At first glance, Wizards Unite is well received by German players. We show you the ratings in the German app stores (as of: 23.06.2019, 9:15 AM)
- On Android: Here, Wizards Unite averages 4.2 out of 5 stars. Over 39,000 people have already rated the game. Over 1 million downloads can be recorded here.
- On Apple’s iOS: In this app store, the game has significantly fewer ratings. Only 344 players provided a rating here, averaging 4.5 out of 5 stars.
Comparing this to the ratings of Pokémon GO, slight differences are noticeable. Pokémon GO received only 4.1 stars in the Play Store and even only 3.8 stars in the Apple App Store.
Wizards Unite is faring better at launch than Pokémon GO is now. However, the game is just getting started. There can still be a lot of changes.
What is well received in Wizards Unite
Wizards Unite is already being praised in the app stores. In our Facebook group about Wizards Unite, there has also been a lot of positive feedback.
- “The characters look like they came straight from the movie!”
- “Beforehand: I have never played Pokémon GO, so this gameplay is new to me. Normally, I am quite a homebody, but this has the potential to get me out daily. I haven’t encountered any intrusive pay-to-win tactics and there are plenty of inns to refill energy. There are also many findable objects and fortresses. Of course, you lose sometimes, but that’s no big deal.”
- “The new Harry Potter GO game makes a good first impression, at first it seems a bit overwhelming, but if you are a Harry Potter fan and have played Pokémon GO, you will quickly find your way around and see parallels between the games. I am very satisfied so far.”
- “As a Harry Potter fan, this game is a must! Simply brilliant. It might also be an alternative for fans of Pokémon GO with a similar concept.”
What is not well received in Wizards Unite
Despite the many positive voices, there are also some points of criticism. Especially the time requirement, the confusing start, and the high data consumption are criticized.
Also in our comments, one topic was particularly criticized: The limited spell energy available.
- “I still don’t grasp it; I’m still looking for a guide.”
- “I find it very time-consuming. In my opinion, it’s not something you can play a bit on the side while taking a walk.”
- “It’s probably a great idea in some way; I’m also a huge Harry Potter fan, but I didn’t expect and want a game that is almost 1 to 1 like Pokémon GO. I had imagined it to be much less boring and better. Disappointment.”
- “After the first gameplay, I lack the motivation to continue. I’d rather open Pokémon GO. A major downside is that it consumes enormous amounts of mobile data. 200 MB for about half an hour of gameplay, while Pokémon GO has only used 38.5 MB in total over the last 10 days for me.”
- “A big problem is the energy. In our village, which is about 4*4 km, there are exactly 7 inns, 4 of them on a 200-meter stretch of road, then one 100 meters further and the last 2 another 300 meters away at a bridge. That’s it. In the entire further area, there are only fortresses and flags.”
