It seems that Destiny 2 will soon apparently receive numerous Masterwork catalysts for its Year 2 weapon exotics. This is something that very few fans expected.
This has now been discovered in the game data: The new Update 2.2.2 not only introduced the weapon Perfected Outbreak into the game. After the new patch, savvy fans discovered numerous new Masterwork catalysts in the game data. It looks like you’ll soon be able to empower a variety of exotic weapons from Year 2.
What are Masterwork catalysts anyway? With these items, you can upgrade certain exotic weapons to a Masterwork. Essentially, this means you enhance the respective weapon, making it stronger and more powerful. In a Masterwork version, certain stats are improved or even additional perks are unlocked for the respective gun.

Which exotic catalysts are new now? A total of 21 new Masterwork catalysts have been discovered in the data of Destiny 2. For some of them, the effects have already been partially read out. However, these should be taken with caution, according to the user who stumbled upon the entries. For others, only the names are known.
The effects were already listed for these 9 catalysts:
- Cerberus +1: improved stability, higher reload speed
- Dienstvergehen: improved range
- Trinary System: reduced charge time
- Lord of Wolves: larger magazine
- Wavesplitter: improved range, increased ammo capacity
- One Thousand Voices: improved stability, increased ammo capacity
- The Queenbreaker: improved range, improved aim assist
- Twin-tailed Fox: increased reload speed
- Black Spindle: larger magazine (increased amount of ammo since it is a sword)
- Perfected Outbreak: SIVA nanites deal more damage. Enemies stuck with nanites upon kill generate additional nanites.
For these weapons, only the catalysts themselves have been found:
- Wishender
- Pikass
- The Last Word
- Thorn
- Arbalest
- The Chaperone
- Izanagi’s Burden
- Le Monarque
- Jötunn
- Anarchy
- Thunderlord
This is what the Guardians are speculating about: With the exception of Perfected Outbreak, these catalysts have only appeared in the game data so far. It is currently unclear when and how the remaining new catalysts will actually find their way into the game.
Some Guardians speculate that they could make their way into Destiny 2 as part of Season 7. Some believe that a few of them could already be made available in advance for the new season and then released piecemeal.
However, these are merely fan theories. There is no concrete information on this. Additionally, some fans warn that Bungie has taken an incredibly long time to introduce already known catalysts into the game.
That’s why very few expected this: Many fans hoped and waited for these catalysts. Yet very few probably truly believed that they would soon emerge in the game.
Indeed, even if Bungie has promised corresponding catalysts for all exotic weapons, there has been no news about this feature for quite some time. Since summer 2018, in principle, there has been radio silence, or no new information.
Furthermore, it took Bungie almost a year to catch up on the Masterwork catalysts for the missing Year 1 weapons. Even when they recently announced that the three faction-specific catalysts would be coming to the game this summer, numerous Guardians joked that they had taken a year to do so. At this pace, the remaining catalysts, if they even make it, will probably only arrive in Destiny 3.
Nothing has been said about the Masterwork catalysts for Year 2 weapons. Therefore, many fans assumed that this feature was either completely discarded or postponed indefinitely – similar to the Trials of the Nine, which are unlikely to return before Fall 2019.
Recently, we also reported that the catalysts are a feature that fans are still waiting for in vain.
Did you actually think that Bungie would likely introduce the remaining catalysts in the foreseeable future? When do you think and how will they make their way into the game?
