The map Aeternum of New World is large. This means that players have to cover long distances on foot to reach the next quest giver or specific resource locations. Traveling takes time that you could use for other things in the game.
The fast travel function is easy to understand
How does fast travel work in New World? Fast travel in New World involves teleporting from point A to point B. You can access fast travel via the map by clicking on the double arrow icon (>>), or by directly interacting with a fast travel point in the world. The fast travel points are called shrines in the game.
What does fast travel cost? If you want to use the fast travel function, you need the currency Azoth. In our guide on Azoth, you can find out what it actually is and how to obtain it. The price for fast travel depends on the distance you want to cover:
- The base price for fast travel is 50 Azoth.
- On top of the base price, there are distance costs. The further away your destination is, the higher these are.
- There are also burden costs. The more you carry with you, the higher they are.
- The costs can be reduced by a faction control discount, a faction discount, and a company discount.
It is worthwhile to empty your bags at a storage house and teleport to a fast travel point that is located in your faction’s territory.
Fast travel points are also visible on the map even if undiscovered
How to find fast travel points? The fast travel points, or shrines, can be found in the wilderness and in larger settlements. If you want to unlock them in the wilderness, simply approach them. It should be enough to stand on their platform. A prompt will appear when you have successfully unlocked them.
The shrines in the wilderness are somewhat hidden. While you can recognize them from a certain distance by a bright, blue glow, if you don’t get close enough, you can easily overlook them.
A tip on how to find the fast travel points more easily during your journey through Aeternum is to identify them on the map. The shrines are marked on the world map, even if you have not discovered them:
The shrines resemble a map pin or a chalice. 
When you are close enough, you can see a bright, blue glow. 
A prompt shows that you have activated the shrine.
There are other alternatives to fast travel
What alternatives are there? You can of course traverse Aeternum on foot. This can happen unintentionally if you run out of Azoth. So be frugal with it at least in the early levels. However, later on, you can collect it strategically. Alternatively, there are three more ways to travel faster through New World.
The first option is to use the recall to an inn. This function is unlocked during the initial story missions. Here you receive a quest that leads you to an inn where you register as a guest. The recall works once every 60 minutes and takes you exclusively to the inn you’ve bound yourself to. It is free to use.
Option Two is also tied to a settlement and works through player housing. However, to purchase a house, you need a territory reputation of at least rank 10. Additionally, you must own a house. These are expensive at the beginning of the game and thus not a fast travel option for new players. If you own a house, you can teleport there.
The third and final alternative is death. If you are out in the wilderness, you can set up a camp where you can rest or craft items. Additionally, the camp is a point where you can respawn if you have passed away.
After you die, you can choose different respawn points and will be revived at these. Keep in mind that your equipment gets damaged upon your death. If you can plan your death, put it in your inventory beforehand.
