For the very motivated: Embrace all tips and create thematic sessions
For those who prioritize mood and atmosphere in Dungeons & Dragons: Use thematic sessions that can be designed accordingly.
A holiday oneshot with corresponding food and decor, a Halloween special with horror elements, or a sort of crime dinner or another festive event that is of great significance in the story of your campaign.
These sessions often linger in memory for a long time and can become something truly special. Even better if everyone takes the extra step and participates. Dress up in nice outfits, bring themed snacks, create a cool playlist, and off you go!
Personal tip from Caro: If you find the idea exciting but are unsure where to start, I would like to share one of the best sessions from our campaign.
Our game master announced a masquerade ball for which we all dressed up to celebrate appropriately. Our kitchen was prepared solely for this day and was the reason for buying our first tablecloth and wine glasses. We played fitting music, lit candles, learned etiquette, and behaved as the high society that we definitely are.
It was something truly special and a session I will not forget. And I wish you such moments too.
Perhaps I could offer you a few inspirations with these tips that you want to take for your own sessions. Perhaps there are even more tips that I haven’t thought of yet. Feel free to share them with me, I look forward to your input!
MeinMMO editor Alex has been playing in the same D&D campaign with the same group for years, and with much joy and – almost even more impressively – regularly! How he and his friends manage that, he reports here on MeinMMO: I have been playing the same Dungeons & Dragons campaign for years regularly – this is our success recipe
