1. Don’t use swings with large weapons in big battles
In Mordhau, “Friendly Fire” is generally active. This means that your allies will also experience the effects of a strike as if they were your enemies – just with less damage under certain circumstances.
Most large weapons like longswords, two-handed swords, large axes, and spears have a very large radius when swung sideways. If allies are standing next to you, perhaps out of your line of sight, you may hit them. This results in:
- your attack stopping there and not hitting the enemy.
- your ally’s attack being interrupted.
- your ally taking damage and possibly even dying.
- the enemy getting the chance for an unblocked strike or stab.
If you’re fighting in a larger group, especially in the Frontline mode, use overhead attacks or thrusts, depending on which weapon you use. Blunt weapons like the quirky lutes are not suitable for thrusting.
Extra tip: If you’re a bit unsure and don’t have much combat experience, use the perk “Friendly” in your class. This reduces both dealt and received team damage by 50%.
2. Pack a dagger
One of the biggest advantages of Mordhau is that you can create your own classes. You can equip these with specific armor, weapons, and items. One of these possible weapons is the dagger.
Daggers only cost one point out of a maximum of 16 available to you and take up one weapon slot. However, they are highly useful in many situations:
- Daggers are very fast and can hardly be blocked
- Thrusts to the head deal a lot of damage
- Thrown, they also deal a lot of damage at a distance
The main reason to carry a dagger is against opponents’ spears and rapiers. These are often used for thrusting and cause problems for enemies, especially in conjunction with shields. Daggers can easily riposte these thrusts and land a quick counterattack that effectively counters these unwanted weapons.
3. Use bandages or bloodlust
If you receive a blow in Mordhau, the damage taken remains for the most part. You mainly regenerate health points by killing enemies in close combat.
However, this is not always easy, especially if you are low on health and need to fight multiple opponents. Therefore, we recommend packing bandages (1 point, weapon slot) or the perk “Bloodlust” (5 points) in the class creation.
- Bandages heal you by 50 health points when used, 2 charges, refillable at ammo crates
- “Bloodlust” fully heals you after each kill in close combat
This tip is especially suitable for deathmatches where you often face a series of opponents one after the other. Here, “Bloodlust” is particularly effective.
4. Use medical kits
A tip that seems obvious is often overlooked. Medical kits are items that you can use in one of your weapon slots for 2 points. You throw the kits on the ground in battle so that teammates can heal.
The kits then lie there and can be used like supply crates or other usable items. Healing players need to stand still for a moment. They heal you completely. Keep in mind that:
- you are protected while you heal
- you place a medical kit in a location that is as protected as possible
- the kit is only available for a limited time
It’s advisable to have at least one or two players with medical kits on hand in team fights so that you can last longer.
5. Track the objectives
This tip only applies to the Frontline mode. In Frontline, you need to capture multiple points and then complete objectives to progress further – or reduce the enemy’s “tickets” to 0 through kills and time.
Many players forget that completing the objectives can lead to faster success. Particularly capturing points is important because it prevents subsequent points from being captured by enemies or their objectives from being completed.
Therefore, always try to keep an eye on what your current objective is:
- complete the objective or capture the next point as a group
- leave only a few people for defense
- try to be quick
It’s easy to get distracted by a bunch of enemies, causing you to stand still and not progress, only fighting. Therefore, try to stay with your team and advance together.
