With exciting modifications, you can have even more fun in Among Us. New roles like the Sheriff or the Doctor spice up the game.
Among Us has been one of the big hits of recent months and is still riding the wave of success. It’s no surprise, as it’s great fun to sneakily take out your friends as an Imposter or to puzzle together to figure out who the traitor is. However, for those who have been playing the game for months, the games might need a bit more variety – in the form of mods.
In the meantime, modders have brought many innovations to the game that ensure more variety and more exciting matches.
What modifications are available? Currently, there are a whole series. These mods either add new skins or even entire roles. These roles are then assigned to random crew members and give them new tasks or abilities. Among the most popular mods are those that add a Doctor or a Sheriff:
The Sheriff Mod for Among Us
One of the most popular modifications is the addition of a new role in the form of the Sheriff. The Sheriff is basically a normal Crewmate, so like his colleagues, he has to complete the tasks on the ship to progress.
However, the Sheriff can do even more, as he is not defenseless. He does not have to rely on voting out the Imposter during the meeting but can take fate into his own hands.
The Sheriff can, similar to the Imposters, take out another player and kill them directly. Of course, this should be done with the best knowledge and aim at an Imposter to immediately remove them from the game and get one step closer to victory.
If the Sheriff chooses correctly, then the Imposters have a problem. If the Sheriff chooses incorrectly and hits an innocent team member, then he will be killed immediately, making the task easier for the Imposters.
The YouTuber jacksepticeye plays a few rounds with the Sheriff Mod in this video:
The Sheriff is an interesting yet dangerous role. The Imposters want to eliminate the Sheriff as quickly as possible to avoid facing resistance. Therefore, it might be unwise to reveal oneself as the Sheriff directly.

The Doctor Mod for Among Us
Equally popular is a “Doctor” mod, which is sometimes referred to as a “Healer” mod.
The Doctor is also basically a normal crew member who must complete tasks to repair the ship or space station.
However, the Doctor has the ability to revive dead crew members if he finds them before another player reports the body. This creates a new dynamic when reporting bodies, but it also requires new agreements that the revived player should not reveal the identity of the Imposter.
The Doctor is thus the primary target of the Imposters, so he cannot heal and revive other players. At the same time, it might force the Imposters to report killed players immediately so that the bodies disappear and cannot be revived.
This video shows how it works with the Doctor:
How to Install Mods for Among Us
How to install the mods? Mods only work on the PC version of Among Us, as you need to exchange game files. For example, we will take the Sheriff Mod as an example, but the installation is similar for all mods.
- Download the Sheriff Mod from the mod developer and ensure that the mod and game are on the same version.
- Open your game folder, which is located in the Steam directory. Navigate to: Steamlibrary → Steamapps → common → Among Us
- Then create the folder “Among Us Sheriff Mod” in the “common” directory.
- Extract the downloaded file into the newly created folder.
- If you did everything correctly, you can now start the mod via Among Us.exe in the “Among Us Sheriff Mod” folder.
Be aware that all players must have the mod installed for it to work. It is also necessary for all players to start the mod.
A while ago, Among Us had serious problems with cheaters:
Are the Mods Worth It for Among Us?
Who are the mods worth it for? Anyone tired of the standard roles and wanting to add a bit more excitement to the game should try out the various mods. Especially veterans who are already familiar with all the tricks can bring a little more action to the games.
Who should stay away from such mods? Generally, the mods with additional roles are only recommended if you play in larger groups (i.e., 8 players or more). Otherwise, the additional roles can create a lot of chaos and quickly end rounds. If you only have 5 players, then the Sheriff could end the game immediately with a wrong shot. Additional roles are therefore only worthwhile for games in larger groups.
Since the mods are currently only usable on the PC version, they are not an option for mobile players.
Have you tried some mods for Among Us? Or are you still only playing with the standard roles?
