Subscription models are becoming increasingly popular in gaming. Above all, the Xbox Game Pass is attracting attention. It has captured the hearts of gamers, largely due to the extremely high value it offers. Because last year you could play games worth several thousand euros.
What is the Game Pass? The Xbox Game Pass is an offering from Microsoft. It is basically a subscription model where you pay monthly and in return gain access to hundreds of different games that you can download and play at will – at least as long as you are a paying subscriber.
What is so special? The Game Pass features not only old classics but also numerous brand-new titles that are available from launch. For instance, you could already play current shooters like “Back 4 Blood” or “Halo Infinite” at launch directly via Game Pass. This way, you avoid the full price that a title would otherwise cost.
The sheer value of games added in 2021 is extremely remarkable. The Loadout magazine has added up all the newcomers. If you were to buy them individually in the Microsoft Store, you would have to shell out nearly $6,300 – or about €5,500.
That’s not only quite economical but also offers an extremely cheap “trial period” for all games. You can test a game and, if you don’t like it, save yourself the trouble of having spent many dozens of euros on a single game.
After all, the Game Pass costs only around €13 a month – depending on the offer, sometimes even significantly cheaper.
What is the downside? Despite all these advantages, one should not forget that the Game Pass also has several disadvantages – like most subscription models. On the one hand, with a subscription model, it’s quite easy to fall into the “trap” of simply keeping the subscription without using it. Many subscription services speculate that customers are just “too lazy” to cancel the subscription, even if they haven’t used it for a while.
Additionally, the contents of the subscription are not permanent. You do not actually own any of these games, and after the subscription ends, access is also denied.
If you play regularly and do not want to actually own games after finishing them, the Game Pass seems to be the right choice, saving a lot of money in recent months.
